Question
If you remove any one of the cloud forests available, would any species
die out?
Answer
There are some species that have their natural habitat in a cloud
forest, so it is a possibility that if the cloud forest targeted was the only home
for them, they might die. Now that a few national parks/reserves have adjusted
their place to suit a few of the animals, if deforestation should occur to
their natural habitat, they are still able to breed at the reserve/national
parks.
Question
What are the impacts of deforestation?
Answer
There is a lot more land to use and grow crops and if needed (almost
never), climate change. However trees are our source of oxygen so we are
limiting ourselves to less oxygen. Also, there would be a lot more pollution
and greenhouse gas emissions that come from factories since trees absorb CO2
as well. To dig deeper, it removes the habitats of a lot predators/prey,
so if there are very few predators, the food supply will quickly disappear
because of the amount of prey alive. But if there are too many predators, there
won’t be enough prey for them to feast on and they will die.
Question
What have we lost from deforestation?
Answer
Each year we lose 13 million hectares of forest, or, to simplify,
around 36 football fields a minute. So far, 50% of the world’s original forests
(haven’t been modified or recently grown) have been lost. It is also the source
of 15 to 20% of global carbon emissions due to dead trees not being able to
absorb the emissions and the amount of emission generated from the work
required for deforestation.
